I have a Wacom Intuos 9×12 which I couldn’t live without but It’s a pain to drag it from work to home every day and deal with hooking it up so I took a look at this tablet.

I was a little skeptical that the reduced size and the consumer level price tag would mean that it wouldn’t preform well enough to meet my needs.

This tablet has great resolution and is the perfect replacement for the mouse. I still prefer my Intuos when I’m doing heavy graphic stuff but for every-day use the bamboo is awsome.

I purchased this pen tablet to go with my brand new macbook. Installation was a breeze, and it has a great interactive tutorial. The software bundle (photoshop elements and corel painter essential) is a bit out-of-date, not current versions of the software. The tablet is easy to use, and surprisingly accurate. Feels very paper-like, although it makes a little scratching noise, when you touch the surface the stylus. Works flawlessly with the macbook’s built-in ink applcation, and you can take notes that immediately convert to typed text, with amazing accuracy.

My only problem is that since the the active area of the tablet corresponds to your screen, you can’t rotate the tablet (unless you rotate the screen, which is not that easy to do with a laptop, although I have yet to try it with my external monitor), so unfortunately it is in fact a lot smaller than you would think based on the dimensions. (I draw fashion sketches, so they tend to be vertical)

I do love the corel painter application that came with it, and will probably buy the current, full version. It has great, realistic watercolor renderings, and works perfectly with the tablet.

In retrospect, I think I would have been better off saving some money and buying the modbook (a tablet version of the macbook) instead. Maybe next time.
